The “Brouillon d’un rêve” grant, for documentary filmmakers & composers

The two organisations encourage composing original scores for creative documentaries, and to pool their resources to boost the financial support. Since 2011, an endowment for musical scoring has been awarded to winners of the Brouillon d’un rêve grant:
From these two supported films, the discussion will reflect on the relationship between music and documentaries, whether conceived as part of the writing or later during editing.
Directors Sylvia Conti (Nom de noms) and Elisabeth Silveiro (Vostok n 20), with their composers Krishna Levy and Evgueni Galpérine, will be hosted by director and screenwriter Jacques Deschamps.
Part of the panel will be Lise Roure from LaScam (responsible for support and “Brouillon d’un Rêve” grants), and Églantine Langevin, director of the Cinema, Audiovisual and Music for Image Department of SACEM.

Impact producer

Some documentaries aim at denouncing, alerting, shining light on situations or people who have an impact on how the world is going, especially regarding environmental issues, human rights issues or social justice. These films touch people’s minds and hearts, yet they can achieve even more when producers and filmmakers have devised an impact strategy. It allows better funding for the film by reaching out to foundations and NGOs and it broadens the film’s impact on institutions, political bodies etc leading to actual changes. For over ten years, “impact producer” has become a new profession in the film business.

Franco-German afternoon:
Heading for the Grand Accord Documentaire - What is at stake for Franco-German coproductions in the light of ARTE’s Grand Accord Documentaire

ARTE is often referred as the broadcaster for creative documentary. Thanks to its ambitious European co-production policy, ARTE has contributed over the years to the emergence of a strong cluster of talented documentary filmmakers, though it remains complicated for French and German producers to join forces in production: The French and German poles, which equally finance the structure of the channel, do not usually co-produce documentaries together.
The “Grand Accord Documentaire” to come in 2019 is designed to foster co-productions between French and German documentary producers: During this afternoon we will be talking with producers from both sides of the Rhine about this future collaboration, and looking at a few examples of co-productions between the two countries: Will also be participating to the panel representatives of the CNC and the FFA, who’ll be sharing a number of solutions envisioned to make both funding systems compatible. Lastly, delegates of ARTE’s board will expose their documentary strategy and tell us how the “Grand Accord Documentaire” will be implemented.

How the Erasmus+ programme improves young people’s employability

Impact assessments have shown the benefits of students’ mobility on their employability. Studying and doing traineeships abroad helps students and learners develop transferable skills, better preparing them to integrate successfully into the world of work. This is why 83.4% of students say that their participation in the Erasmus+ scheme has made them more employable.

Meet Laure Coudret-Laut, the director of the Erasmus+ France / Education & Training Agency, who will speak about the way in which Erasmus mobility projects enrich university and high school students, teachers, and trainers.

Meeting preceded by the presentation and trailer of the documentary film, Once in a Lifetime.

Round table

An exploration of how to create web-documentaries and new forms of writing about current events in a classroom setting

Both teachers and students regularly take part in innovative projects on the subject of media and information. The media classes held in the education authority of Bordeaux since 2008, and the journalists brought in to teach there since September 2018 through the Regional Cultural Affairs Agency (DRAC), form a springboard for innovative production.
How do the pedagogic and teaching teams work? What kind of collaboration can be established between information and imagery professionals? What kind of financing is possible? What tools should we use in this era of smartphones and drones? How can these projects truly motivate students and benefit their learning?

Moderator: Isabelle Martin
Bruno Vuillemin, teacher and instructor (CLEMI Bordeaux)
Isabelle De Santi, teacher (collège Paul Esquinance de La Réole)

Bruno Vergnes, teacher (collège Pierre Emmanuel de Pau)

Round table

Graduation films: the issue of distribution and of finding an audience

After perhaps a handful of screenings and a festival or two, student films simply end up on the shelf. Today, Tënk and its First Reels segment gives a platform to student films. But there are also other initiatives.

This round table will raise awareness of existing initiatives, as well as identifying legal issues (who owns the rights to these works?), and furthering the conversation on the legal status of student films and their creators: It will bring together professionals, teachers, representatives from institutions, distributors, and film school students.

Following this round table, a summary will be written up and sent to the relevant institutions: the Ministry of Higher Education, the National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image, the Ministry of Culture).
